Framework

Methodology

The U.S. Strategic Alignment Index is a five-dimension measure of how closely any country tracks American strategic, economic, and cultural interests. It was proposed as a diagnostic tool — not a morality score — for diplomatic forecasting, alliance management, and policy prioritization.

Scoring

Each dimension is scored from 0 to 10. Zero is active opposition or misalignment; ten is full strategic alignment. The five scores are summed (maximum 50) and normalized to a 100-point index:

Index = (Military + Economic + Diplomatic + Technology + Cultural) × 2

Dimensions are equally weighted. Community scores are the unweighted mean of every published rating for that country. Every save writes an append-only event, so the index can be reconstructed month by month on the 3D map and country pages.

Coverage

The catalog includes every UN member plus Taiwan, Kosovo, and Palestine. The United States is the reference frame — it appears on the globe but is not scored. Click any country on the map to rank it; the time slider replays community means from stored rating history.

The five dimensions

  1. 01

    0 · Economically decoupled  →  10 · Highly integrated

  3. 03

    Diplomatic Alignment

Voting alignment at the United Nations, public support or opposition to U.S. foreign-policy goals, and participation in U.S.-backed initiatives.

    0 · Systemic opposition  →  10 · Strong alignment

  4. 04

    Tech & Intelligence

Joint R&D, trusted semiconductor and AI supply chains, cybersecurity and data-governance cooperation, intelligence-sharing frameworks, and restriction of adversarial technology.

  5. 05

    Cultural & Societal

Popularity of American culture and education, English fluency and U.S.-educated elites, and civil-society structures including free speech and liberal democratic norms.

Reference vs community

The reference index is a 2025 snapshot encoded from the original framework and publicly observable alignment — treaties, trade architecture, UN posture, technology controls, and cultural affinity. It is a starting compass, not a substitute for judgment.

The community index is live. Sign in, publish ratings, and the aggregates update. Analytics surface means, regional structure, score distributions, and where the crowd diverges from the reference.
